CABOT Codes is a practice run by building officials. Ten years of code knowledge, delivered through technical training, project management and software built for the people who do the reviews — technology applied where it genuinely helps, never where professional judgment belongs.

What we do

Training design and development

Technical training for building officials, written by building officials. CABOT Codes designs the course, authors the material, and hands over content your instructors can teach.

That work is done in collaboration with provincial and national associations, including the Ontario Building Officials Association and the Alliance of Canadian Building Officials’ Associations, and has been delivered to hundreds of building officials across the country.

No course is a finished object. Each one builds on what the last one taught: how the material landed in the room, where participants got stuck, what instructors had to work around. That feedback goes into the next design. The intent is never to repeat a course — it is to move the training forward each time.

CABOT Review Assistant

A review tool for plan examiners working to the Ontario Building Code. Most first submissions come back with deficiencies and the same file returns two or three times — the Review Assistant carries a project across every round until it closes.

Where other permitting products ship an empty comment library for each municipality to fill, ours arrives filled: Ontario Building Code review comments authored by a practicing official and current to OBC 2024. The examiner answers a few questions about the project and receives the comments that apply, already worded and already cited — including Part 11 compliance alternatives with authored letter wording.

The tool surfaces vetted comments. It never writes a deficiency and never invents a Code reference. A building official reads the file, decides what applies, and signs the letter. That is what responsible technology looks like in a regulatory setting: it removes the retyping, not the judgment.

How a file moves

First submission The examiner answers a few questions. The comments that apply come back worded and cited.
Letter issued The round locks as the permanent record of what was sent.
Resubmission The same file returns carrying what is still open — not a fresh letter.
Closed Every round stays on the file as the history of the review.
